64-bit MAME Arcade Cabinet with 4 Player Control Panel (watch in HD!)
Cabinet:
Slik Stik (now defunct?) cabinet with four 8-way joysticks and 7 buttons each. The trackball and spinner are recognized by the OS as additional mice/mouses. The black joystick is a dedicated 4-way to play early 80’s games the way they were meant to… although it’s a little out of the way.
Audio/Visual:
The display is a real arcade 27″ multi-sync by Wells Gardner (D9400). Audio is piped through a bass unit inside the cab and two cheap but great Sony Xplod SX-R1311 5 1/4″ 160 watt speakers just underneath the marquee.
Computer:
Everything’s driven by an Intel Core2Duo E6300 overclocked to 2.45ghz paired with an ATI x700. By late 2008, you can get this combo with mobo and accessories for $250 or less. If you only want to run MAME, you can get by with just a little more than enough RAM to boot your OS. It doesn’t need much. This one has just a couple of gb so some of the other emulators and media apps can run a little better.
OS / Software:
MAME v0.127 with some of the popular patches like high score, and no nag startups, were compiled 64-bit and ran on Windows XP x64. This gives a pretty consistent boost in performance in MAME. I originally tried to run Vista x64 instead but I’m running Soft15Khz (please donate to sailorsat!) to drive the monitor at old arcade resolutions and 15khz refresh. It replaces the need to have a vga to jamma video or arcadevga video card. Unfortunately as of this writing, soft15khz does not work in 64-bit vista.
The front end is MALA with MAME, Atari 2600, Nintendo NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Master System, Genesis, and Sega 32X for emulators. I won’t go into each of the emulators but they’re essentially the popular ones ppl are running. Stella for 2600, Nulldc for dreamcast, etc. Just google for them… [Read More...]

MAME: Rampage (Original Arcade game)
Rampage is a 1986 arcade game by Bally Midway. Players take control of gigantic monsters trying to survive against onslaughts of military forces. Each round is completed when a particular city is completely reduced to rubble.
Up to three simultaneous players control the monsters George (a King Kong-like gorilla), Lizzy (a Godzilla-like dinosaur/lizard), or Ralph (a giant werewolf), created from mutated humans. They need to raze all buildings in a high-rise city to advance to the next, eating people and destroying helicopters, tanks, taxis, police cars, boats, and trolleys along the way.
Monsters can jump and climb buildings, and punch enemies and buildings. Buildings also take damage when jumped on by a monster.
The player receives damage from enemy bullets, grenades, shells and so forth, and from falls. Damage is recovered by eating appropriate food such as fruit, roast chicken, or soldiers. If a monster takes too much damage, it reverts back into a naked human and starts walking off the screen sideways, covering its genitals with its hands. While in this state, the player can be eaten by another player. If the player continues, the human mutates back into the monster, or flies in on a blimp if off-screen, with a full life bar.
