Neo-Geo Mini MVS Demo (MAME Arcade Machine)

Posted on Aug 19, 2008 03:49:18 PM

This video is a demonstration of my M.A.M.E. arcade cabinet, which is a miniaturized Neo-Geo MVS.

It was built 100% from the ground up by modifying plans for a Neo-Geo MVS 2-Slot upright cabinet. It only has controls for one player, but there is a second external USB joystick that can be plugged in for two players.

PC Specs:
-ASUS P4T533-C Motherboard
-Pentium 4 2.53 GHZ CPU
-512MB PC1066 RDRAM
-BFG GeForce 6800 128MB AGP
-80GB Western Digital 7200RPM HDD
-Onboard Sound & Ethernet
-17″ Envision LCD @ 1280×1024

Software Setup:
-Windows XP Service Pack 3 running minimal services and programs
-Custom boot screens
-Running MaLa (MAME Front End) as the Windows shell in place of explorer.
-MameUI version .126u3 running at 1280×1024 with RGB filters & DirectX

Other Cabinet Features:
-Pause, Menu, Service, and One-Button-Power-On buttons
-80MM exhaust fan
-Stereo speakers
-Custom sized & printed marquee and control panel
-Working coin door & lights

Currently there is no side art but I am in the process of having it printed.

The plans are available to anyone who wants them, just drop me a line.

It’s a cheapo 17″ LCD I got off eBay. A CRT would look better probably but due to the cabinet’s size; it’s just not possible. The biggest CRT that would fit would be a 14-15″. The LCD actually looks great - I’ve got MAMEUI running the DirectX screen filters so it has a CRT-like look.

keep a upgrade on da MameUI version in case of roms expansion and i got a question…do u think it would be cheaper and convenient to use a custom control deck like x-arcade tank sticks or da original cabinet’s????

There an external controller you can pull out from the back for 2-player. Trust me; the cabinet is tiny. No way two adults could play at the same time.

That was actually just me exiting back out into the menu. It takes a sec for Mame to close out the CPS3 games.

It’s not really a money issue, it’s more convenience. To do the custom panel you’ll need an I-PAC2 interface ($40) and maybe an additional $20-30 in parts (plus the woods/nails/screws/etc). The X-Arcade pretty much just comes ready to plug in. I always thought though that they look too tacked on vs. a custom panel.

whats the point of putting fighting games if the cab’s CP is set to one player only? do you plan on getting a second one having it set back to back like the candy cabs in japan?

There’s a custom 6-button layout USB arcade stick in the lower part of the cab - it comes out through the coin door for 2 player action. Trust me, I got this shit worked out!

Hey, this stuff critically functions well, I ran across a more revamped version from it at roulettecash==org totally free, and I made some serious income.
