The player pilots a combat aircraft called a ‘Solvalou’ which is armed with a forward-firing gun for aerial targets, and bombs for destroying ground-based targets. A red targeting square is situated in front of the Solvalou, which allows the player to aim their bombs accurately. The enemy craft appear in a number of different guises; from the standard variety that arrive in large numbers but shoot slow-moving projectiles, to exploding black spheres that shoot projectiles at high speed. There are also rotating shields that cannot be destroyed and must be carefully avoided. Ground enemies are a combination of both stationary bases and moving vehicles, most of which fire slow-moving projectiles. A gigantic, floating fortress (called ‘Andor Genesis’) appears in certain areas; this is defeated by knocking out its core.

also Namco Museum Remix for Wii, Namco Museum Battle Collection for PSP,and thats about it.
Dude I love Xevious I just unlocked it on Star Fox Assault a few months ago.
The number of hours I’ve spent playing this… Ah, the memories. Only wish they’d done without the music.

I would’ve played this a lot more back in the early ’80s if I’d known about the hidden “Sol Citadels” and 1up flags. There’s a lot more to this game than at first glance.
I played this before my shift at Chuck E.Cheese’s back in 85-good thing I got free game tokens or this game would have sucked away my measly paycheck!
One of Namco’s best games (even though it was released by Atari). And a personal favorite to boot.

the innocense of being in the arcade in the early 80’s. Although looking back at it, most of the older games don’t hold up anymore.

I don’t care what anyone says. The atmosphere of the old arcade rooms has been lost to the couch potato. Xbox live, MMO’s etc. are really not the same as being in an old type arcade rooms. The sounds of other games, people cheering for this or that, having to put your quarters on the machine to hold your spot in line, it’s all been lost. Also, IMO these old games are just as good if not better than what’s made today.
I had a high score of 1, 965, 000 on this game about 20 years ago while at university. it took me about 2 hours to get that score, and at one point I had ‘E Solvalou left’ ( the game counts in hexadecimal, so E is the equivalent of 14 ships left)
