This is more like it, wonderful!
YOU BE SO DAMN FIERCE!
man, you are talented woman!
Less belting more head voice!
it’s supposed to be belted. have you ever seen she show Mame that this song is from?
It should be a mix…healthy singing…I’m just giving you a warning…belt too much and you’ll lose your head voice or it will become weak and noticable when you try to switch in a song.

this is fabulous.
PERFECT!!!!
I agree that all facets of the voice should be worked, but healthy belting is, well, healthy, and certainly possible.

screaming is not necessarily belting? Especially when it not in pitch…

this definitely wasn’t screaming, it was belting.
this definitely wasn’t screaming, it was belting.
it’s also not really belting, its a really strong lyric sung through her nose which i know isn’t the best, but since she’s a musical theatre major i’m guessing she knows what’s good and wrong

>.> Funny to watch, but you’re not really belting at some points. You’re just screaming…badly…and off pitch… Painful to the ears. Really.

i think it’s a character thing.
i think it’s a character thing.
good actress but you are actually awful singer…..
The singing is part of the acting as well.
actualyy check her out in uddenly Seymour…sh’es a beastly singer
I don’t know the technicalities of singing, but I can hear that she’s yelling loudly instead of singing. Maybe the only way she can project is with screams ? If she was miked, maybe she could sing with less stress and force, and thereby make her sound more even and deliberate instead of erratic and desperate. I give her 9/10 just for selecting this song. It just takes better coaching, that’s all. Keep following your drems….
I’m guessing no one commenting has been in musical theater. Sometimes they ask you to sing a certain way for a character. Be it bad or whatever.COME ON NOW. They wouldn’t ask someone to be in a play and sing, if they couldn’t sing unless they were in kindergarten.
it’s a character piece. it doesn’t need to be perfect.
To those of you whom are saying that she is an “awful singer” or she isn’t singing, she’s “yelling loudly.” Well, you obviously don’t know the show Mame, this is ENTIRELY character! The character she is portraying, Agnes Gooch, is suppose to sound like an awful singer.Knowing the show, I think Julia did an absolutely awesome job of portraying Agnes Gooch.
The charecter sings this way, i play patrick in the play im in, trust me no one sings this bad!
This is brilliant! You def got Gooch’s character with this song. I really enjoyed it and laughed a lot!
you need a control top and a voice teacher!
The character is knocked up and frantic. Listen to the lyrics.
plays are fake and gay…but really they are fake and gay.
is dis the video im suppsoed to flag?
This is why i hate acting!!!!!
Bravo. If only the “Mrs. Burnside”s at the beginning were a bit deeper in the throat it would have made it much more funnier, but either way I thought that was a very talented gooch.
iz diz da vydeo uhm sposed ² flag?
iz dis da video im supposed 2 flag??
Well, a balance needs to happen here. YES, the character is panicky, BUT that doesn’t mean that the entire piece should be screamed. It is like dynamics, if one sings loud the entire way through, not only does it damage the voice, but the audience quickly loses interest in what the CHARACTER that you have worked hard to develop is saying.
And again, though, no GOOD musical director would ask her to sing that poorly throughout. Yes, with good coaching on technique it would be appropriate and FUN to add in a few off pitch squeals, but again, this has to be a director concern not just with acting but with care of the singer’s voice! So, no, I’m not blaming her at all. She is a great actress. Just wish her voice would’ve been repsonibly cared for by the musical director and/or coach.
Could tell she enjoyed the character! So, let Gooch be quirky and awkward. Just sing her with good form so you can still have a voice to do roles throughout your life!
Best to you.
@ryantoinette I was in musical theater. She might be the ‘character’ but in the movie and the live performances, she’s never THAT horrible. Sure, she’s supposed to be quirky and a few off notes here and there…but not the whole time….
excellent!!!!
She’s not a bad singer at ALL. She yells, yes, but she never goes off notes °-°
