it’s supposed to be belted. have you ever seen she show Mame that this song is from?

It should be a mix…healthy singing…I’m just giving you a warning…belt too much and you’ll lose your head voice or it will become weak and noticable when you try to switch in a song.

I agree that all facets of the voice should be worked, but healthy belting is, well, healthy, and certainly possible.

screaming is not necessarily belting? Especially when it not in pitch…

it’s also not really belting, its a really strong lyric sung through her nose which i know isn’t the best, but since she’s a musical theatre major i’m guessing she knows what’s good and wrong

    >.> Funny to watch, but you’re not really belting at some points. You’re just screaming…badly…and off pitch… Painful to the ears. Really.

I don’t know the technicalities of singing, but I can hear that she’s yelling loudly instead of singing. Maybe the only way she can project is with screams ? If she was miked, maybe she could sing with less stress and force, and thereby make her sound more even and deliberate instead of erratic and desperate. I give her 9/10 just for selecting this song. It just takes better coaching, that’s all. Keep following your drems….

I’m guessing no one commenting has been in musical theater. Sometimes they ask you to sing a certain way for a character. Be it bad or whatever.COME ON NOW. They wouldn’t ask someone to be in a play and sing, if they couldn’t sing unless they were in kindergarten.

it’s a character piece. it doesn’t need to be perfect.

To those of you whom are saying that she is an “awful singer” or she isn’t singing, she’s “yelling loudly.” Well, you obviously don’t know the show Mame, this is ENTIRELY character! The character she is portraying, Agnes Gooch, is suppose to sound like an awful singer.Knowing the show, I think Julia did an absolutely awesome job of portraying Agnes Gooch.
