This video shows you the basic set up that you need to play classic arcade games.
Recommended system requirements to play games like street fighter 2 are: 2.0Ghz processor, 512 sdram. If you go under 2Ghz you need FSB of 800Mhz.
I have an AMD Sempron 6000+ (1.8 Ghz) with 800 fsb and 1GIG ddr. Over kill for most.

A great controller for MAME it’s Logitech’s Wingman Gamepad. They don’t make them any more but you can find them out there still. It’s great for any Street Fighter type game because it has 6 buttons which will allow you to do your Hadokens, Sho-Ryukens, etc.

You need the CHD file. romkeeper has the chd and go to mameaddicts[dot]com to find out how to install the chd.
how do i record gameplay from mame? fraps and hypercam slow it down to much and the record function has some strange format i never heard of?

Just wondering if you know.if you built a mame cabinet,which im sure you’ve seen.How would you do the credits thing and the player one.if there is no longer a keyboard.just an arcade controller.Can you set the credits/Player1/Player2 button to a certain button? like instead of 1 or 2 on the keyboard to player 1 button on the controller?
i download carnevil and i saved it inside the rom folder but when i open mame it dosent appear on the avaluable menu and in the all games menu it has a black square

I love mame. I’ve got a quad core 3.0 ghz twin 8800 GTX in SLI p.c. and I sit and play Gorf and Berzerk.My machine can murder Crysis but I keep getting a hunger for Defender.Must be my age.I use an x-box 360 pad or an old playstation pad through a usb converter.

OK, this vid is for BASIC users. Some of us know how to over clock a CPU and tweak our OS, but those who don’t won’t haveto worry if they use the spec from the video.

here’s something you have not said. If you moved your MAME to another folder, you need the folder’s name in the directory

i downloaded this version you have,got the 7z box opened it and have loads of directorys like you have but thrs no arcade box to launch mame or any icon that i can find in any of the directorys to launch it either,this is the lastes version of mame 32 that im downloading any tips ,am i missing something i shud do inthe other directorys

Most people who want to play roms don’t have a computer science degree, I wish the MAME developers would’ve taken this into account.
Hello, i might just be stupid, but the games wont show up in the availble tab when i’ve put the roms zip in the roms map, what am i doing wrong?

try clicking on the mame arcade icon then to file>audit all games. Now the newly downloaded games should appear in the available section.
HELP,just downloaded a few games like Marvel Vs StreetFighter and NONE work? I made sure I put them in the ROM folder as directed.When I start the game, It loads up to about 75% and then it comes up with an error, saying there’s missing files. e.g: “mvs.06a NOT FOUND”"mvs.07b NOT FOUND” etc….What am I doing wrong? some one please answer!

hi i downloaded mame32 and when i download the rom file it comes in a winrar file so i did wat u said and did not extract it. and i put it in the rom file but i still cant find it when i click on mame and click available
I downloaded mame (called MameUI32 version 0.133) and I tried getting marvel vs capcom, and I downloaded the Neo Geo bios rom for it. I placed both of them in the rom folder but when I play it, it doesn’t work. Is there something I’m doing wrong? Please help. Thanks.

hey i downloaded the same mame version but i have the same problem you had so how do i fix the problem i’m new to mame btw.
put the zip into the “rom” folder. Open Mame32 and click available. Then press “F5″. Mame will re-read all the files and will show you what is available and what is not. have fun!
Apparently you downloaded a zip file that is not for the version 0.133. Also make sure that for neogeo games you also download the “neogeo” zip.

Thanks for posting! I have a Microsoft Sidewinder Pro gamepad and have been having issues with MAME recognizing it. I’ll try setting the options like you did and see if that will fix it.

That’s probably because you have old roms and a newer version of MAME that expects the new roms.Like last night, I installed MAMEUI32 v135.3 (the latest one) - I found that Street Fighter Alpha 2 no longer works with my current roms.So I found a recent roms torrent and downloaded the new rom. Works now.If you’re going to upgrade MAME regularly, that’s the kind of thing you can expect unfortunately. (I tend to upgrade every 5 versions)
I’ve never looked back since getting my X-Arcade a few years ago. It’s basically an actual arcade console. 2 joysticks with 8 buttons next to each. Pinball buttons on the side and player 1 & 2 start buttons. Built like a rock so you can smash shit out of it.Street Fighter is fantastic on it - later versions of Mame have a pre-made configuration so that no programming is necessary.It emulates the keyboard, so you can use it with almost any arcade-style PC game (Pro-Evo is great on it).
Well - maybe you’ve calmed down by now, but other people often say the same kind of thing.So this is aimed at all such people:a) You are getting most of the greatest actual videogames for freeb) You don’t donate to the PCB dumping project which is how the games are transferred from old circuit boards (by buying them) & transferring them into rom files.c) It takes 5 minutes to learn how to use MAME, although it is unusual at first. (use MAMEUI32 like the guy in the video - much easier)
@imayjustsay yo the same thing was happening to me for a very long time. It was because i downloaded the wrong version of MAME for games like marvel vs street fighter and xmen vs streetfighter which run on a different technology than the old games. You have to download MAMEUI32

My direction keys work for the controls, but the fire buttons don’t seem to be assigned anywhere on the keyboard.

@ZombieeEtunn hey man,, u got it from the mame site right?.. the top files are the source code,, and the bottom files is the program… hope this helps
MAME can play unzipped ROMS, but then the roms have to be in a subfolder of the /roms folder, with the exact name of that romset, and then the unzipped files go in there. That’s a LOT more complicated than just dropping in the zipped roms into the /roms folder.Also, if you get a full complete set (torrent or newsgroups) and then you find an ‘update’ for the next stable version, you can “merge” them with CLRMAME Pro.
The only reason I use any unzipped Rom, is if I’m using a ROM hack for a game–example: Gauntlet 2 modified wizard/warrior powers, which I put into the /ROMS/GAUNT2/ folder unzipped. And the normal clean rom goes into /roms. This way, MAME will ignore the clean rom and run the modified one instead.

Mame isn’t working on my newer laptop at all (I have windows vista). My old laptop had a virus & I had to transfer all my MAME stuff to my new one & I keep getting the error/not found messages when I try to load games.

You know what? I was trying to set up MAME for this very game…didn’t work unfortunately though I managed to make another game work (dodonpachi) so I figured cps2 games are hard to get working maybe? How did you do it?There’s always something missing, whichever version…
Nevermind. I didn’t have the parent rom I came to realize. Working like a charm now. Some games just need more hunting…

@TheComboMeal First , I dont normally reply to these messages, but…chds need to go in the same folder as the rom folder but in its own folder. DONT PUT ALL YOU CHDS IN ONE FOLDER! each must have its own and name the folder the same name as the chd itself……remember to run an audit on the game..the audit will tell you what missing and where it searched…follow that clue buddy.

PLEASE HELP!! I would really like to get this to work so if someone would be able to help I’d really appreciate it. I installed MAME 0137, I get a title screen telling me to select a game, and when I do that I get an error message. Something about not having a CHD. I have no idea what this means and I am very ignorant when it comes to emulation. Have tried searching but its not helping. Thanks.

So I got to work an older version of MAME and am playing only a handful of games right now. I am having an intermittent problem where the games play fine for about 2 minutes after startup, then video and sound start to skip and slow down. I believe its the program since it does it with all games so far. And it doesnt happen all the time. Can anyone help?

I think ROMworld has the best MAME emulators, especially for the MAME emulators for Mac, because I have 1 Mac and I have 2 MAME emulators and they only play ROMS from ROMworld.

i had this about 8 years ago and it stuffed the computer up but it was a shit computer but i remember this it was awesome i had like 1000 games in cluding abot 5 neo eo games street fighter vs capcom 1 n 2 streetfhighter 2 championship ed capcom vs marvel it was awesome it took me about 10 minutes to figur it all out
